Upon entering Innovate, the student and her family will meet her personal coach. Together they identify the student’s long-term educational goals. What does she or he want to achieve in school? What does she or he need to learn? What will it take - from their family and the school - to succeed? These long-term goals are documented in the Educational Documentation System (EDS), and the student’s personalized strategies for learning are established.
We use the metaphor of climbing a mountain: to get to the ultimate (long-term) educational goals, different students take different paths. All students are expected to meet and exceed New York State and Common Core proficiency standards, so the student and her or his coach break down their individual path into measureable and achievable yearly, term, and weekly goals.
